About Gary Bloom
Gary Bloom is a musician from Orange County, NY. He plays a classic
rock style of music with infusions of blues, mostly influenced by his
father. Gary's father, Howie Bloom, makes an appearance on Gary's
first album, Lighting the Dark, playing lead guitar on "For One Smile"
and "For One Smile Redux" as well as playing live on Thursday night's
as the lead guitarist at a small bar in Middletown, NY. Howie is
Gary's primary influence, having raised his son on Classic Rock and
Roll, Blues and Jazz. Gary grew up listening to the likes of The Who,
Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Mikes Davis. The influences show up
not just in his guitar playing style, but also heavily in his lyrical
phasing and writing style.
Gary has focused most of his playing time in the New York and New
Jersey area, having played in Orange, Rockland and Westchester County,
Manhattan, and some areas of Northern New Jersey. Working with
multiple bands over his life, including "Beyond the Wall" and "Testing
Chester" more recently, "The Three Amigos and Steve" and "Spiders from
Mars" much earlier on, generally as a lead singer and rhythm
guitarist. Lately, Bloom plays out simply as the lead in "The Gary
Bloom Band" which includes his brother, "Drummer Dave" Bloom, father
Howie, guitarist Collin Riley, and a plethora of differing bassists.
Forthcoming projects include a music video for "For One Smile" and a
new album with a more acoustic bent to debut this fall.
